Cyber Security Research and Policy

Strategic Policy Research (SPR)
We develop strategic papers - such as research papers, proposals and reports - in the fileds of information security. These documents have assisted CyberSecurity Malaysia's stakeholders as well as management to make well-informed decisions. We also provide strategic advice and feedback to stakeholders' enquiries on cyber security matters. In addition, we spearhead and establish new initiatives - such as collaborations with relevant local and international parties, and implementation of cyber security technologies.

Examples of initiatives that we have undertaken are:

The development and management of a project for the Study of Malaysian Cyber Laws to Face Challenges in the Cyber Environment;

The establishment of the OIC-CERT (Organisation of the Islamic Conference - Computer Emergency Response Team) collaboration which assisted the OIC member countries to establish or strengthen their cyber security capabilities;

The establishment of a strategic collaboration between CyberSecurity Malaysia and international agencies such as the Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA), Japan and ITU-D;

Cyber Media Research (CMR)
This service is mainly for our key stakeholders such as MOSTI. Examples include providing periodic reports to the Government pertaining to the development and issues in the areas of cyber security; as well as preparing ministerial papers such as Ministerial Cabinet Memoranda, Ministerial Cabinet Notes and official feedback to Parliamentary enquiries. Additionally we also provide MOSTI with regular reports on cyber security incidents and analyses on potential cyber threats to the country. These reports and studies assist our stakeholders in making informed decisions or in formulating policies and developing guidelines for the country's information security initiatives.

Policy Implementation Coordination (PIC)
This is a dedicated service to assist the government in implementing the National Cyber Security Policy (NCSP). The NCSP vision is centred on making Malaysia's Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) a secure, resilient, self-reliant, and infused with a culture of security that will promote stability, social well-being and wealth creation. To materialise this vision - ministries, regulators and organisations of the country's CNII must work together in a coordinated fashion under the guidance of the National Cyber Security Coordination Committee (NC3).
