Seminar on Curbing Net Abuse

The Energy, Communications and Multimedia Ministry, local universities and other agencies planned to draft an Internet guidance programme for parents.

The minisrty's parliamentary secretary, Chia Kwang Chye said the programme, aimed at helping parents to monitor their children's use of Internet at home, would be conducted at public institutes.

Replying to Senator Datuk Mazlan Abu, he said the Government did not practiced censorship on the net. However, under the Communications and Multimedia Act, anyone who sends defammatory news or pornographic material to hurt or threaten others could be charged in court, he said.
